ZONING
ANNOUNCEMENT
Attention Claridon Residents!
Attention Claridon Residents! Look for an important survey. The Claridon Township Land Use Committee is in the process of drafting a survey to discover the will of Claridon residents regarding the future of Zoning in our township. The last Land Use Survey was way back in 1994. It's time to update. Although the Committee has a ways to go yet, the survey will eventually be mailed out to every household in Claridon. We'll be sure to give you a heads-up once we are ready. For reference, you can click here to view the 1994 survey answers and comments (comments are at the end of the survey and are kind of fun to read!). If you have any questions, you can contact Trustee Jonathan Tiber at 216-276-8342 or JTiber@ClaridonTownship.com.

Taylor Wells Road Project (North of 322)
Our township is responsible for Taylor Wells Road, North of 322 (the county is responsible for the section of Taylor Wells Road South of 322). It is the longest road that the Township maintains (click here to see our Township Road Inventory). Our section of Taylor Wells road is in need of resurfacing. A previous Board of Trustees voted to widen the road prior to repaving it in order to get OPWC (Ohio Public Works Commission) grant money. The work of widening began shortly after the decision. When this current board took over, they looked at the books. Due to financial restraints and challenges, they recognized the road could not be completed until calendar year 2022 however, the township had to wait for OPWC to grant the Township $250,000 as a financial assist to pave the road which cost $1,049,000. Burton Cole Contractors offered the lowest and best bid therefor, they are awarded the contract.
They started the project on May 30 and hope to complete it within 30 days although, to allow for weather and other unexpected delays, they are allowing 45 days.
Contact the township if you have any questions.
Setting our sights on the financial affordabliity of repaving it in 2022 took intentionality and work sessions. In 2019, we crunched numbers and discovered if we cut costs on other items, streamlined our maintenance department and saved, we could resurface the road during calendar year 2022. The only variable would be when we received the $250,000 OPWC grant. We received the grant however, we received it later than expected. What does that mean? It means that Taylor Wells road (North) may not get resurfaced until calendar year 2023.
The Township collects on a single road levy which was passed 30 years ago. It collects approximately $84,000 annually. The Township also collects on inside millage at a rate of approximately $48,000 annually bringing the total millage revenue to $132,000 annually. Due to the lack of funding, Township roads will not be repaved in the forseeable. Click here to see the bullet points sent via post card to Township residents prior to November 2021 Election Day.
This Board will continue to handle funds diligently, responsibly and with great care. It is of utmost importance to always practice sound financial discipline and discernment.
The Board encourages you to contact them and get in-the-know about Township business. Contact Trustee Jonathan Tiber to receive Claridon News & Notes via email.
We love Claridon!
